The Tower of Babel

The Tower of Babel

The lesson we learned at church today was about the Tower of Babel. Babel means confusion. The Bible is not a book of fairy tales, everything in it is true. The book of Genesis in particular mostly speaks of our beginnings. We didn't just pop out of an explosion and said,"Here I am!" Or evolutioned from apes. The book of Genesis is very clear that everything that is or was had been created by Someone. Things don't appear out of thin air. In the book of Genesis we see that God created Adam and Eve because of the serpent they sinned and got cast out of the Garden of Eden and from that point on, things went very wrong people started rebelling against God and doing evil things that did not please Him. And then the wrath of God was upon them, He decided that He would destroy this creation (of man) an start a new one . But amongst those people God saw Noah and because of ONE man and his family whose hearts were pure , we weren't all destroyed God in His mercy gave us a chance. Many years later, the people had forgotten all that God ha done for them and one of Noah's sons had become great. In fact, he was the first warrior ever. His name was Nimrod. One day, he decided that they should build a city with a tower that reached up to heaven so that when travelers came form afar they would see their tower and marvel at how great their city was and wonder at their strenghth and power. You see, of all the people there, be it workers, builders, architects or even Nimrod himself asked God, "Do you want us to do this?" Or "Would it please you, God, if we did this?" God  could've sent an earthquake or lightning and destroyed their building but their minds were set, anything that happened  would not stop them. He then sent the dispersion of languages and people. People there got confused and could not communicate with one another anymore and found others which spoke the same language and went on their way. This was a very important point in human history. The lesson in this is that even for the smallest decisions, we should ask for God's counsel because one way or another we always will end up asking for it.
