The Top 5 Benefits of Forgiving
Forgiveness.
This 10-letter word can have a lot of power when you think about it. Forgiving comes easily to some, meanwhile to others...not so much. Here I listed the Top 5 benefits and joys of forgiving, go ahead and check it out!
1: You'll feel Better
I know, I know, this one's a 'classic' but it just so happens to be quite true. Forgiving someone can help take that awful wight you've been feeling lately off your shoulders. It really helps to spend some time in the Bible and speaking to God through prayer, it will shed a LOT of light to help you through whatever situation you're facing. Plus, "...let not the sun go down upon your wrath:" Ephesians 4:26 You also might want to solve problems before they get worse. After all, there's nothing better than going to bed with a clear conscious and a guilt-free mind!
2: It'll help you move on
Most of the time when bad situations happen and we don't forgive the people who made us go through a tough time the end result is bitterness. You can't live a whole life bitter because of things in the past, we have to move on! "With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King." Psalm 98:6 You might be thinking, 'With what I've been through I have a right to be as bitter as I want thank you very much.' and I totally get it, we all have our moments but keep in mind that the man who wrote this one, David, hadn't lived a perfectly happy life. In fact, he had all the reasons to be as bitter as a sour lemon but he chose to thank the Lord for the good things in his life (and this guy had lived as a fugitive for years, had to sleep in caves even though he was annointed as a king, and even had his father-in-law give away his bride to someone else) Even through the situations David lived he still knew God had a purpose for his life and that all those challenges he had to face for some time would become the life lessons that prepared him for what was ahead. He even forgave a man who attempted to kill him, several times! Forgiveness helps us move on, go ahead try it!
3: There's some stuff in it for you too
Ever heard the saying 'Treat others as you'd like to be treated'? Well, it's based on Matthew 7:12 and it really goes in line with what Luke says in Luke 6:37,"Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven." He's not saying that if you forgive every single person that has done you wrong they might forgive you when you mess up but the forgiveness you gave them will not go unnoticed. You can also live guilt-free and happy because you did your part, the hardest one, the forgiveness one. After that, it will give you the opportunity to just go on and be happy.
4: Don't Worry Be Happy!
Did you know that true happiness can also come from forgiving someone? It can, in fact, you feel better knowing that you don't have to drag around all that anger, bitterness, etc, against that person anymore. Forgive and forget, it's just that simple, but no one said the process was easy. Next time someone makes you mad, just forgive them and move on, don't worry be happy! "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice." Philippians 4:4
5: Pass it forward!
Hey, we ain't perfect either. Everyone has their faults and flaws but there was one person who didn't have any fault at all and that was Jesus. He came to this earth and died for our sins even though we didn't deserve it. He could've just stayed in Heaven and been all, "Well, they sinned so it's kind of their fault and I'll just stay up here." BUT NO! That's humanistic thinking and he loved us beyond all reason. He forgave us and died for us, pass it forward! "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God's for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Ephesians 4:32
